About The Stag Archive
This site exists to be the most accurate, readable and well-illustrated online reference for the Triumph Stag. It is independent, non-commercial and written from the twin perspectives of a newcomer learning the model and an experienced owner who wants the details to be right.
Purpose
A reference, not a fan page
The Stag deserves a source that treats it seriously: its real history, its genuinely clever V8, the well-documented faults that damaged its reputation, and the practical knowledge that keeps these cars reliable today. Every major page is written so a beginner gets a clear answer near the top, then can scroll into the depth that expert owners and restorers expect.
We do not chase clicks with myths or nostalgia. The aim is simple: when someone asks “What is a Triumph Stag?” or “Should I buy one?” or “Why does my Stag overheat?”, this site should give them the right answer, plainly and completely.
Who runs it
Written by an owner
The Stag Archive is run by a Triumph Stag owner who bought the car for the sound and the shape, then stayed for the engineering. The site is built from factory literature, club archives, specialist manuals and lived experience — not from memory or forum shorthand.
It is not affiliated with BMW, Rover, the former Triumph Motor Company, or any club or commercial supplier. Where we recommend a club, specialist or book, we say so because it is useful, not because there is a commercial relationship.
Editorial standard
Verified facts, owned images, open corrections
Verified facts
Figures, dates and specifications come from primary sources or established marque references. When a number is uncertain, we say so rather than round it.
Owner photography
Car photographs are contributed by owners or taken by the site. We never use stock images, web scrapes or AI-generated car pictures.
Primary sources
Factory workshop manuals, parts lists, road-test data and club archives are preferred over forum posts and repeated folklore.
If you spot an error — a wrong date, a mislabelled part, a disputed figure — please say. Corrections are welcomed and credited where requested. The goal is for the archive to improve with every conversation it prompts.
