Cookies
The short version
This site sets no analytics cookies, no advertising cookies and no tracking cookies of any kind. The only cookies are strictly necessary ones from the hosting layer, plus your sign-in session if you have an account. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, strictly necessary cookies do not need your consent, which is why there is no cookie banner here.
Why there is no banner
A consent banner exists to ask permission for cookies that are not essential, and this site has none to ask about. There is no analytics package, no tag manager, no advertising network, no social media pixel and no visitor profiling. Nothing counts you, follows you or builds a picture of you. Putting a banner up anyway would imply otherwise.
The cookies that are set
| Cookie | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| __cf_bm | Cloudflare, through the hosting layer | Tells automated traffic from real visitors, which is how the site stays up without a login wall. | About 30 minutes |
| __dpl | The hosting provider | Keeps your visit on one deployment of the site, so pages and assets always match each other. | Session, expiring within the year |
Both are strictly necessary. Neither is used to identify you as a person, and neither feeds any measurement or advertising system.
Sign-in, which is not a cookie
If you create an account, the sign-in session is held in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie. It is there only to keep you signed in between pages, it stays on your own device, and signing out removes it. Clearing your browser's site data for this domain clears it as well. It is strictly necessary in the same sense a session cookie would be, since without it a signed-in area cannot work at all.
Fonts loaded from elsewhere
The two typefaces used here are served by Google Fonts, so your browser fetches those font files from Google's servers. That request does not set a cookie. It does mean Google receives your IP address and the usual technical details of the request, which is recorded plainly in the privacy notice.
Managing cookies yourself
Every browser lets you see, block and delete cookies for a site. Blocking the two listed above may make pages load less reliably, since they exist to serve the site correctly. Nothing here will pester you about it.
