The essentials
Name, URL and author
- Site name
- The Stag Archive
- Canonical URL
- https://triumphstag.org
- Author / editor
- Jon Cosson
- Based
- North Yorkshire, England
- Contact
- hello@triumphstag.org
- Preferred link text
- The Stag Archive — or, in running text, “the Triumph Stag archive at triumphstag.org”
Please write the name as “The Stag Archive” — not “Stag Archive UK”, “Triumph Stag Archive” or “thestagarchive.com”. The site is independent and has no connection with Triumph, BMW, Jaguar Land Rover or any owners' club.
Approved wording
Boilerplate
Three lengths, all pre-approved. Use them verbatim or trim to fit — they are written to be dropped straight into a press release, programme note or article footer.
One line (≈ 20 words)
The Stag Archive (triumphstag.org) is an independent, enthusiast-run reference archive devoted to the Triumph Stag.
Short paragraph (≈ 50 words)
The Stag Archive (triumphstag.org) is an independent reference archive devoted to the Triumph Stag, built and written by owner Jon Cosson. It covers the 2,997 cc V8, buying and ownership, fault finding, servicing, tuning and the model's history, with an owner-submitted registry alongside the technical material.
Full paragraph (≈ 120 words)
The Stag Archive (triumphstag.org) is an independent, enthusiast-run reference archive devoted to the Triumph Stag, produced by Triumph between 1970 and 1977. Written and maintained by owner Jon Cosson, it documents the car's 2,997 cc SOHC V8, its well-known weak points and their modern remedies, buying and market guidance, home servicing, tuning and originality, together with an owner-submitted registry and gallery. Figures are taken from factory literature, marque clubs and published sources; where a figure cannot be verified the archive says so rather than estimating. The Stag Archive is part of a small network of independent classic-car archives that also covers the Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider, the MG T-Series and the AC Aceca.
For sub-editors
Triumph Stag fact sheet
The figures most often needed — and most often got wrong — in captions and copy. These are factory figures; the fuller tables are on the specifications page.
- Model
- Triumph Stag
- Production
- 1970 – 1977
- Total built
- 25,939
- Engine
- 2,997 cc 90° SOHC V8
- Bore × stroke
- 86.0 × 64.5 mm
- Power
- 145 bhp at 5,500 rpm
- Torque
- 170 lb-ft at 3,500 rpm
- Transmissions
- 4-speed manual (overdrive optional) or Borg-Warner 3-speed automatic
Two points worth getting right in print: the Stag's V8 is a Triumph design in its own right, not two slant-fours bolted together; and the car's overheating reputation belongs to poorly maintained examples, not to a well-sorted one.
