Renewing the air filter on a Triumph Stag

Why, and how often

A clogged element richens the mixture and costs power; a missing or damaged one draws grit straight into the Strombergs and wears them quickly. Renew annually or at each major service — more often in dusty use.

Steps

1. 01. Open the air-cleaner

   Undo the air-cleaner cover/box and lift out the old paper element.

2. 02. Wipe out the housing

   Wipe out the housing — don't let debris drop toward the carburettor intakes.

3. 03. Fit the new element

   Fit the new element the correct way up, seating it fully.

4. 04. Refit the cover

   Refit the cover securely — a loose cover lets unfiltered air bypass the element.
